On October 2, 2009 a comedy film, Whip It, starring Ellen Page, Kristen Wiig, Marcia Gay Harden, Juliette Lewis, Drew Barrymore, is released in United States. Whip It is written by Shauna Cross, directed by Drew Barrymore (it’s her directorial debut), and produced by Barry Mendel and Drew Barrymore. The film is based on Cross’ novel Derby Girl.

The mother of a misfit girl Bliss (Ellen Page) pressures the girl to enter beauty pageants, but she decides to join a roller derby league. She sees her new heroes in those girls. Bliss has no idea how to skate but Smashly (Drew Barrymore), one of her teammates, helps her.

After she is good enough to not break her bones and neck on skates, she lies her mom that she has a pre-SAT class after school on Thursdays. Her mom believes her and is happy, because Bliss takes some initiative in her life. But when her mom finds out the truth everything changes.

Her mother would prefer that Bliss unlace her skates and step back before the judges, but rebellious teen continues learning the tricks of the circuit track.
