On October 16, 2009 a remake of the 1987 American thriller film, The Stepfather, starring Penn Badgley, Amber Heard, Dylan Walsh, Sela Ward, is released in the North America. The Stepfather was directed by Nelson McCormick, written by J.S. Cardone, and produced by Greg Moordian and Mark Morgan. The film is distributed by Screen Gems.

David Harris (Dylan Walsh), a man who seems to support traditional family values mysteriously come into the lives of single mothers with children and becomes the man they always dreamed about. When he meets Susan Harding (Sela Ward) and eventually becomes a part of her family, her teenage son Michael (Penn Badgley) begins to suspect that David is not the man his mother thinks him to be. Along with his girlfriend Kelly (Amber Heard) and Susan’s friends (Sherry Stringfield and Paige Turco) they start to get pieces together one by one, but they may be too late to know the truth.

The Stepfather movies are based on the real life story of John Emil List. This was a man who killed his family in 1971, fled away and took up a new life and a new identity. In 1987 when the original Stepfather was released List was still on the run. He was caught in 1988 with the help of a telecast of America’s Most Wanted. This episode is incorporated in the 2009 film version.
