On November 25, 2009 a drama film, The Road, starring Viggo Mortensen, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Robert Duvall, Guy Pearce, Charlize Theron, is released in the United States. The Road is written by Joe Penhall and directed by John Hillcoat. The movie is based on the 2006 Cormac McCarthy’s novel of the same name. The Road’s filming was made in Louisiana, Pennsylvania, and Oregon.

The whole world lies in ruins after some unspecified horrible apocalyptic event has taken place. A father with his young son start their journey to the south to escape from cold and endless winter. They meet criminal gangs on their way, so they have to hide or run from them to stay alive. They have only a pistol with 2 bullets. The father constantly dreams about his wife, who committed suicide before the apocalypse began.

On their journey they meet militants, cannibals, and other refugees. But they try to aviod all of them and move further. One day they accidentally find a bomb shelter full with water, food and supplies. But they decide not to stay here, but rather move on because they want to reach the coast.

The only named character in the movie they meet is an old man Ely. Ely cannot hurt them and they share a meal and talk a little. But Ely is not his real name. He uses it because he doesn’t want to be found by other refugees. But. anyway, they part their ways and move in their own directions.
