On July, 31, 2009 the comedy film, Funny People, starring Seth Rogen and Adam Sandler (stand-up comedians in the movie), is released in United States. The movie is co-produced, written, and directed by Judd Apatow.

Funny People has been in post production since January 2009. It’s co-produced by a subsidiary of Happy Madison (Sandler’s company), Madison 23 Productions, and Apatow Productions. Co-financing is made by Columbia Pictures and Universal Pictures. The Universal Pictures will distribute the film all around the world.

In Funny People Apatow continues implementing dramatic elements into the plot, which is typical for his previous works. George Simmons (Adam Sandler) is a self-involved and very successful stand-up comedian. He knows that he has less than a year to live, because of an incurable blood disorder. Ira Wright (Seth Rogen) is another stand-up comedian who struggles up to become famous and successful and to figure out his onstage persona. These two guys are very different but they have on thing in common — they both don’t have close friends.

One day, George and Ira perform at the same club and George takes notice of Ira. He hires him as his assistant and a person who opens George’s performances. They form a close bond as George teaches Ira how to win the crowd and Ira helps George find closure in his legacy. However, when George learns that his disease has gone into remission and old flame Laura (Leslie Mann) reenters his life, his recent near death experience makes him reevaluate what is important to him and what truly gives meaning to his life.

Adam Sandler, RZA, Jason Schwartzman, Eric Bana, and newcomer Aubrey Plaza play together to unite the Judd Apatow, Leslie Mann, Seth Rogen, and Jonah Hill agian in their third comedy cooperation.
