On October 2, 2009 a documentary film, Capitalism: A Love Story, directed and written by Michael Moore, is released in the United States.

The film is devoted to the 2007–2009 financial crisis and the recovery stimulus, while telling about an indictment of the economic order in USA and capitalism in general. Some of the topics are for-profit prisons, Wall Street’s “casino mentality”, the poverty-level of many airline pilots, influence of Goldman Sachs in Washington, DC, the consequences of “runaway greed, and the large wave of home foreclosures.

You can also see several featured stories including an internal Citibank report which tell UDA to be a plutocracy, with the top 1% of people controlling more capital than the bottom 95%, and exposing the “dead peasant insurance” policies which allows companies to earn from untimely deaths of their employees.

Additionally, the film contrasts the present economic reality in America with archival footage of US president Franklin D. Roosevelt calling for a Second Bill of Rights that would guarantee all Americans “a useful job, a decent home, adequate health care, and a good education.”

Capitalism: A Love Story also features a number of positive portrayals including Elizabeth Warren, Wayne County Sheriff Warren Evans who promote a moratorium on home evictions, and Ohio Representative Marcy Kaptur, who on the floor of the US Congress encouraged Americans to be “squatters” in their own homes, and refuse to be vacated.
