On July, 29, 2009 the comedy-drama film, Adam, starring Rose Byrne and Hugh Dancy, is released in the US theaters. Adam is directed and written by Max Mayer. Mayer started writing the movie’s script after he heard an interview with a person with the Asperger’s syndrom on the radio.

The movie was shot in New York in December 2005. Then Adam was first shown at the Sundance Film Festival on January 20, 2009. There it won the Alfred P. Sloan Prize for its “outstanding feature film focusing on science or technology as a theme, or depicting a scientist, engineer or mathematician as a major character”. Exactly there and at that time producer Leslie Urdang managed to sell the film’s distribution rights to Fox Searchlight Pictures.

In March 2009 Adam was shown at antoher festival — the Method Fest Independent Film Festival — and won another award, the Jury Award for Best Picture. Then it was screenad at CineVegas Film Festival, Edinburgh Film Festival, and the Seattle International Film Festival.

Adam (Hugh Dancy) is a handsome, intriguing young man with the Asperger syndrome who led all his life in a sheltered space. He has troubles when communicating with other people and that’s why he wants to escape into his hobby of space exploration. His life passes this way until he gets acquainted with his new neighbor, Beth (Rose Byrne), who moves into the apartment above him. She is a beautiful, cosmopolitan young school teacher. Beth gets him out into the outside world and that leads to touching, funny and sometimes unexpected results. From that moment Adam begins to build the personal relationship with her that he so desperately desires.
